Hello,
Here are my responses to the questions you asked about the library on the evaluations you filled out last Thursday. Feel free to contact me (gillesj@slu.edu) if any more library questions come up during the semester. Good luck with your research! ~ Jane Gillespie - Pius Library
How do I get to the library search engines?
I think you mean database when you say "library search engine". The database is what you can use to find articles on a topic. Academic Search Premier is a database.
Go to libraries.slu.edu. Underneath the "Find an Article" section of the page, click on "Browse databases by name" or "Browse databases by subject".
How do I go from the database to find an article in the library?
The article might be in the database. If it is you will see a link that says "HTML full text" or "PDF full text". If you see one of those links, just click on it to get to the full text. If not, click on the "find it at SLU" button and follow the directions.
I'm still confused about how to find a book using the call number.
Use the location guide (http://libraries.slu.edu/about/locatgde.html)
to find out where that call number is shelved in the library. If you have trouble
locating a book don't hesitate to ask for help at the reference desk.
How long does it take for an ordered article to arrive?
It usually takes a few days for an article you ordered through
interlibrary loan to arrive.
What are the library hours?
Here is a link to the hours for Fall 2009.

What are the differences between the floors in the library?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but you can click
through our virtual library tour to get an idea of what is
on each floor. http://libraries.slu.edu/help/tour/index.html
Can you intern at the library?
We don't have a formal internship program but several of
our student assistants have gone on to become librarians after
getting their graduate degree in library science. If you are
interested in librarianship as a career choice, I'd be happy
to tell you about it over a cup of coffee. Just email me if
you are interested.
Welcome! This blog will be used by SLU Librarians to address English 190 and 192 students' library research questions. Click on your class section's label to find posts for your class.
